The Vagrant – Hidden Gem or just a good game?
A small overview of the action of a militant accidentally found in the vastness
Sometimes, sitting a dark languid evening, I leaf through the list of recommendations on Steam. And periodically I buy interesting unknown games, but occasionally I even pass them. That is how I met the game The Vagrant. Entering a beautiful picture that reminded me of Dragon’s Crown, I sat down for the passage.
Academics and mercenaries
The main character, Vivian, arrives at the distant island in search of the cure of the family curse. Although the word “arrives”, since by tradition of typical games in distant islands the ship tolerates, and naits the heroine to the shore. With this, her adventure begins in the castle of Castles … That is, on the planet Zebes … Okay, you guessed that the genre of the game is a metro -vocational. According to the plot, Vivian will survive the machinations of the insidious academy and one particular academician, save the toilet citizens, let go of noir dialogs and win the older evil.
As you can understand by the description, the plot in the game is quite banal, like the characters. However, the latter still have charisma and are remembered. First of all, this is facilitated not by the masterfully written dialogs (there were no such notes, although sometimes the authors go into philosophical conversations about fate, they are far from the berserker), and the visual style. He sold me the game, he was remembered most of all.
Ladies with outstanding eyes and their enemies
Stylishly drawn characters (and all female – with the fifth breast size), beautiful backbone, good locations – there are no complaints about the graph. There are complaints about the animations of enemies – they are too simple and slightly twitching, but in the fever of the battle it is not that it catches your eye (rather occasionally clings).
But what rushes is a rather boring https://heyspincasino.co.uk/ design of most enemies. Wild boars, wolves, skeletons, zombies – the set is quite standard. There is another problem due to the genre belonging of the game (about others, also genre, let’s talk separately). The game represents us enemies and everything seems to be clear: wild animals are found in the forest, undead – in a cemetery, dark knights – in the former royal palace. But in the same palace there are ordinary skeletons, in the snowy expanses of one of the locations – wild boars. In other words, the enemies are not unique to each of the biomes, but rather similar to enemies from Devil May Cry – first we see them in the “natural habitat”, and then they meet everywhere.
The bosses are naturally worth. There are few of them, the design is memorable, and in the battle there is some kind of tactic: one of the enemies runs along the location and calls the minions, the other must be beaten only at one point (the rest of the damage simply does not pass), which you still need to try, and the final boss simply fills the screen with enemies and there you just need to just try to survive and react very quickly.
You might notice that I did not say a word about music. And all because she … is. And that’s all. There are no memorable compositions (only one preferential from the “central” city, however, it has already disappeared and remembered only by preferential), there is simply an embosses, the sounds of strokes are also quite standard. In other words, there is music, but obviously did not bother with it. And so we get to the most important in games – gameplay.

Uninteresting enemies of enemies are leveled by a fairly quick bat. We have a sword blows, special blows on which Mana is spent on. Gold falls from enemies (buy consumables, new weapons and armor) and experience (pump a character and equipment). Another type of pumping – runes that are inserted into armor and swords fall out of enemies. The runes, of course, enhance the characteristics – damage, protection, the number of CP and mana and the like – everything is quite simple and standard. In addition to enemies, runes can be found in chests (some are hidden) and knock out in faults.
After the murder of the boss somewhere on the location appears an eagle owl, who offers for money to go through a break. Reinforced enemies, and sometimes bummed bosses are waiting for it. The reward is given just the runes (more gold and expo, but this is already enough). And these portals are the only element of metroid.

Here I needed to cheat with the Internet. In Steam, the game in tags has a metro -vanning, in the reviews they also write about the game belonging to this genre. But in the official descriptions of the game you can only find 2D Action and derivatives. This is where misunderstandings begin.
We have a card – but we are moving along it linearly (in addition to backing to the mentioned faults), if the heroine in the plot is still early to go further – she will stand out of the location and say so. That is, there are no improvements that would affect the opening of previously closed tracks, there is no platforming, there are no confusing locations. And yes, these are not the disadvantages of the game, this is a misunderstanding why everyone stubbornly classifies the game for metro -vocation. Perhaps the developers wanted to make a game in this genre, but there was not enough effort or time (at least, the structure of location maps seemed to hint at such a development of events).
Total we get: a good bat, colorful visual series and stylistics, in some places a banal plot in the spirit of “Deep Dark Fantasy” and some uncertainty with the genre. This is enough for me to call the game not bad, especially considering that the game can be passed in a leisurely mode to go in a couple of evenings.
